Chain-Reaction Crash Injures 2 Cops During Traffic Stop On Sunrise Highway

Two Nassau County Police officers were struck and injured during a traffic stop on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa.

Community Oriented Police Enforcement (COPE) officers stopped an Audi on the eastbound side near East Chestnut Street and were walking toward the car when a Honda struck the back of the patrol car at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16, police said.

The collision caused the police vehicle to strike both officers before hitting the parked Audi.

Both officers suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital, police said. The extent of their injuries was not immediately given.

The driver of the Honda, a 76-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital for evaluation. The Audi driver was not injured.

Police noted that there was no criminality involved.
